The Church in Society Board shall witness to the Gospel through service, study. It shall seek justice for all through moral deliberation, social analysis, advocacy and action, with a commitment to human development, inclusiveness and global concerns." (Rocky Mountain Synod Constitution)

The Church in Society Board functions in partnership with the ELCA Division for Church in Society, the region, congregations, and social ministry organizations.

In order to accomplish our three-fold mission of study, service, and advocacy, the Board for Church in Society works through special task forces, Lutheran Offices of Governmental Ministries, ELCA affiliated Social Ministry Organizations, and special synod projects and organizations, e.g. Urban and Border Servant Corps.
