Junior High/Middle School Gathering: What happens if the weather
is bad?
Once again Mother Nature is poised to perhaps
humble us mere mortals of the Front Range of Colorado with more
snow, and it could have an impact on our Junior High Middle School
Youth Gathering in Colorado Springs this coming weekend.
At
present (Tuesday, January 9) we have no plans to cancel the event.
Since the storm's track and power appears still to be undetermined,
we are hoping it will not impact disastrously on the event. BUT, if
the predictions of another weather event such as we have experienced
the past two weeks come true, we shall certainly not endanger lives,
nor complicate the workload of C-DOT workers by encouraging our
churches to be on the road in a storm.
If the event is NOT
canceled—which is our current plan—and a congregation believes local
weather conditions will prevent travel to Colorado Springs, we will
ask congregations to share with the Synod in the financial
ramifications of numerous cancellations. (There are expenses that
have already occurred that cannot be recouped due to signed
contracts we must honor.) Therefore, we cannot state an exact
amount, but we might be able to provide a partial refund yet to be
determined. We’ll try our best.
If you as a congregation
decide you cannot come, please contact Kim Sandfort or myself at the
Sheraton Hotel (719-576-5900) or via our cell phones (Kim:
307-258-5449; Dan: 303-921-9312).
If a huge storm of epic
proportions hits the area so that canceling the event is wise, then
we will work with the vendors with whom we have signed contracts,
and, again, do our best to provide a partial refund.
PLEASE
check the Synod Web Site for the latest word on the event. We aren't
meteorologists, but we shall keep our ears open to those who
are.
Much planning has taken place for the Gathering, and we
truly hope that God blesses us with good enough weather that this
wonderful event can again enrich the Church.
--Pastor Dan
Bollman

The following was gleaned from congregational
newsletters received in the Synod office.
Iglesia Luterana Cristo Rey Seeks Tutors Cristo
Rey, a Latino parish in West Denver, is putting together an after school
academic enrichment program for the children in the parish and community.
It will feature one-on-one tutoring sessions Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. with elementary aged children who need
encouragement and extra help with reading and basic math. Needed are
volunteers willing to commit to working with a child on any of these days.
The program also needs a good selection of books (especially children’s
stories), pencils, notebooks, etc., and welcomes donations of any
materials of this kind that your children have outgrown and no longer
need. This is an excellent opportunity to do fun and meaningful work with
great kids in a personal setting. For more information, please send a
message to: email@cristoreydenver.org.
