Gifts That Nourish, Sustain and
Improve Lives |
The artisans whose beautiful crafts you find
in the Lutheran orld Relief Handcraft Catalog
receive more than a fair price for their skilled work.
Each artisan belongs to an organization that empowers
them to improve their life and the lives of their family
and community. Day to day, this can mean access to
health care, vocational training and education. In times
of emergency, it can mean food rations, shelter and a
support network to aid recovery.
When you
choose to purchase the Fair Trade handicrafts in the
catalog, you purchase more than high-quality handmade gifts. You
support the work of artisan groups and the communities
they serve, and you further the work of Lutheran World
Relief. Through our partnership with A Greater Gift, 7.5
percent of all purchases through the LWR Handcraft
Project are reinvested in support of LWR's partners and
projects.
A Greater
Gift, the nonprofit handcraft program of SERRV
International, works with communities across
the globe to alleviate poverty through trade and
training which empower individual artisans and farmers
and ripple out to benefit families, communities and
future generations. Lutheran World relief has partnered
with A Greater Gift in the LWR Handcraft Project since
1999.
Please
take a moment or two to go to the website. There you
will find such information as how to receive a
FREE Lutheran
World Relief Fair Trade catalog or how
to organize and have a Fair Trade Fair in your
congregation or community. Choose from pre-elected
packages of handcraft or choose your own specific items,
unpack the box, set up, and sell. It's that
easy! | |

Conversations About
Simple
Living |
In today's complex
and busy world, people yearn for simpler lives. Bob
Sitze offers Starting Simple
to help readers live joyfully and justly. Because Sitze
believes conversations change us as individuals and that
most important social changes take place through
conversation, he invites us into heart-to-heart
conversations about simple living.
Sitze helps readers
and others in their congregations:
· Learn what the Scriptures
have to say about living a godly life in these
times. · Find ways to repent of
unsustainable lifestyle choices. ·
Gather courage to change the ways we
think and live. · Speak and listen
to the struggles of others, with honesty and
respect.
David Beckmann,
President of Bread for the World, writes, "Social
justice starts with our own lives and our relationships
with each other. In Starting Simple, Bob Sitze
shows how we can create change by becoming better
stewards of our lives. He offers us as Christians a
multitude of creative ideas for finding and living
what's truly important."
Bob Sitze is former director for hunger
education for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America. An experienced educator and writer, Sitze has
been an observer-and servant-of congregations for more
than 40 years.

Deterrent or Disaster? |

from the EL Paso

the 56.7 miles of planned border fencing in and around

The border fence is 15 to 18 feet tall,
with 21 miles of lighting and two miles of road upgrades
as part of the Primary Fence Project 225, the 225 miles
of border fencing that the government hopes to complete
in 2008.
