Second Sunday after Pentecost
Mighty God, your hands hold the power of life itself. You restore life in the face of death, bringing hope out of despair and promise out of destruction. Through the breath of your Spirit bring new life to us, that we may announce to the world the power of your presence made known in Jesus Christ our Savior. Pastor Paul Joncas: Biking for MS
While Paul Joncas has not been able to ride a regular bicycle since shortly after his diagnosis with Multiple Sclerosis, he is now able to ride a recumbent tricycle. He writes, "Believe it or not, it is easier for me to ride the recumbent tricycle 10 miles than to walk one block due to the constant vertigo that has been my companion for over 2 and 1/2 years." He has signed up for the upcoming Colorado MS Bike Ride, July 7-8, and his goal is to ride between 30 and 40 miles each day. You may sponsor him online as a rider in Team Sugar Bee.. You may also send a contribution to him at P.O. Box 152, Red Feather Lakes, CO 80545. He writes, "I appreciate your support and look forward to letting you know how I do." AND Bikes for Madagascar! The Don Johnson Memorial Bike Team is participating in Ride the Rockies, a 7-day, 422 mile bicycle trek through the Colorado Rocky Mountains from June 17-22, 2007. Don Johnson was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ft. Collins, professor at Colorado State University, and husband of Sharon Johnson, former director of Lutheran Social Services of Northern Colorado. He died tragically last summer from a fall on Horsetooth Mountain. He was an avid bicyclist, and rode in Ride the Rockies on two occasions. In his honor Michaele Johnson (his daughter), Diana Linden, Jim Linden and Will Reents will be attempting the challenging Ride the Rockies, starting in Frisco and riding over Rabbit Ears Pass and Independence Pass in a loop back to Frisco. The Team is using this opportunity to raise money to purchase bicycles for pastors, church workers, and health care workers in the Rocky Mountain Synod's companion synods in Madagascar to enable them to reach people in rural areas. Your donations towards the purchase of bikes will help the team to stay off the sag wagon and keep moving over the mountains. Suggested levels: 1 penny per mile for 1 rider = $4.22 1 penny per mile for 4 riders = $16.88 1 dime per mile for 1 rider = $42.20 1 dime per mile for 4 riders = $168.80 (full cost of bike and extra parts) Please contact Diana Linden at diana@stpauldenver.org or 720-280-0998 for more information or to make a contribution. Contributions of any amount will be appreciated and will be sent to Madagascar through the Rocky Mountain Synod Companion Synod Subcommittee. God's Work. Our Hands. The ELCA's fall advertising campaign which will take place
in the Denver area will feature the tagline, "God's Work. Our Hands." One
hundred participants from 40 metro Denver congregations attended an
interesting and worthwhile workshop this last weekend to learn about the
pilot program and to be challenged to be more attentive to telling the
good news through hospitality and "marketing."

Guys in their 20's to 40's (or thereabouts) are invited to join a "Band of Brothers" through outdoor adventure, fellowship, and a deeper walk with Christ at the "One Year to Live" retreat September 21-23. The retreat will be held La Mancha lodge near Buena Vista, CO. "This new program offers men an opportunity to be adventurous and courageous while at the same time being spiritual, genuine, and vulnerable. This is truly a program that helps us men be the husbands, fathers, and friends that God has always wanted us to be!" Bethany invites other men's groups from ELCA churches in the area to join them at this retreat. To learn more about "One Year to Live" join the men of Bethany at a "Backyard BBQ" for men on Saturday, June 23 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on the lawn at Bethany, 4500 E. The ONE Campaign Fights Poverty For the last month, members of the ONE Campaign have been working hard to convince senators to sign on the Feinstein-Hagel-Durbin-Smith "Dear Colleague" letter. All told, members of the ONE Campaign wrote 60,254 letters, made more than 1,500 phone calls, and went on lobbying visits to 18 senator's offices. Those lobbying trips were especially effective. After your meetings, 15 of the 18 senators visited signed on to the letter. In the end 55 senators were convinced to sign on to the letter, breaking the previous record of 52. While we didn't reach our goal of 60, this new record further reinforces the growing power of grassroots advocacy to place a high priority on fighting poverty. With over half of the Senate signed on to the letters, our list of allies in the Senate continues to grow and will put us in an even better position in the future. Visit ONE.org for information or to sign on. | ||||
