Memorial Service for Jon Francis
A memorial service will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16 at Ascension Lutheran Church in Ogden, UT. Jon was hiking alone in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho and did not return as expected. He has been missing since Sunday, July 16. We surround the Francis family with our prayers, as well as the people of Ascension Lutheran Church. Ascension's website is www.ascensionlutheranogden.org. Spirit Driven: RMS Women of the ELCA Convention
The Rocky Mountain Synodical Women's Organization bi-annual Convention, with the theme "Spirit Driven" will be September 15, 16, & 17, 2006, at First Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs, CO. Registration for the convention is $125 if paid by August 18 and $130 if received between August 19 and September 15. Included are opportunities to share in fellowship with other women from throughout the synod, participate in workshops, enjoy a chuck wagon dinner Friday evening and lunch and dinner on Saturday, and elect the next RMSWO board and our delegates for the 2008 Triennial Women of the ELCA convention. Kay Bengsten of LOGM is our guest speaker and Cam Martin from the national Women of the ELCA board will also present information on engaging younger women in our ministries. Our goal this year is to rally the women in our churches, encouraging and empowering them to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ. Road Trip: A Gathering For Young Men
Lutheran Men in Mission will hold its second national gathering for young men ages 18-34 entitled "Road Trip: Coming of Age" which will take place at the YMCA of the Ozarks in Potosi, MO near St. Louis on October 27-29, 2006. The YMCA is surrounded by the Ozark National Park where guys can participate in hiking, bike riding, fishing, golf, and other outdoor activities. There will also be time to just relax in serene surroundings through nature. Every man can benefit from this gathering. The ONE Lutheran campaign challenges your congregation to become a ONE Lutheran Congregation by organizing a ONE Sunday and achieving three of the following five goals: 1. Feature the Millennium Development Goals in a sermon. 2. Organize a Bread for the World Offering of Letters and have participants also sign the ONE declaration.
