Celebrating Carolyn!

This week we give thanks for the ministry and service that Carolyn Thomas dedicated to the offices of the Rocky Mountain Synod, ELCA, and the Central District, American Lutheran Church. This week Carolyn retires after 24 years of dedicated service. At staff prayer on Tuesday morning, we honored Carolyn with a Liturgy of Retirement, taken from Linda Witte Henke's book, Marking Time: Christian Rituals for All Our Days.
A portion of the liturgy states, "Your retirement signals the completion of one chapter and the beginning of another; it marks your entrance into a time of greater freedom for rest, recreation, and pursuit of those activities that bring you joy."

On Tuesday afternoon, friends and family gathered at the synod office to celebrate Carolyn's retirement, some who are pictured above. We commend Carolyn on to the next chapter of her life journey, giving thanks for her dedication and service to the Church.
Prayers

Prayers of remembrance
We remember in prayer the family of Pastor Martin Schroeder, who died August 26. He was ordained in 1949 and served Messiah Lutheran Church, Grand Island, NE., and Bethany Lutheran Church, Cherry Hills, Village, CO. We give thanks for his years of faithful ministry, and we surround his family and friends with our prayers.

Pastor Ray Larson (current interim at Ft. Morgan, CO) has shared that his daughter's brother-in-law was the flight attendant on the Commair jet that crashed on Sunday morning. A memorial service will take place at the crash site on Thursday, and a memorial service for the flight crew will take place in Cincinnati at Delta headquarters on Friday. Our prayers are with them these challenging days.

I Will to You: Leaving a Legacy for Those You Love
Herbert Brokering's newest book is available Oct. 1 from Augsburg Publishing House
Herbert Brokering goes beyond “The Five Wishes” to leave his legacy to loved ones and to those who have the privilege of reading his latest book, “I Will To You”. Drawing upon simple pleasures experienced on the Nebraska prairie where he was born and raised, as well as lifetime adventures, he paints incredible word pictures that bring memories alive and captures the spirit of a life lived fully. Legacies such as ”Wood”, “Aroma”, “Sparrows”, “Hobo Angels”, “Dried Daisies”, “Prayer”, “Stars” to name a few, become recognizable spiritual gifts. Nothing in this life is taken for granted for all comes from God and has a message to bear.

I Will to You can be used as a daily devotional, but I warn you it is difficult to put down once the book is opened. It is a book that will be referred to again and again as it speaks so poignantly to a person’s soul. I Will To You would be an ideal gift to each child in your family as well as to those who appreciate the “poetic” writings of a gifted, prolific Spirit-filled writer.
