Senior high youth gathering
Nov 17- 19 Registration is now open online at www.rmselca .org/forever/. Whatever, Wherever, Whenever, Forever, this year’s Rocky Mountain Synod Senior High Youth Gathering, will offer young people an immersion into the emerging church. The speaker is Nate Frombach, Professor of Youth, Culture, and Mission at Wartburg Theological Seminary. Dr. Frombach will passionately lead us into exploring ways that young people in the church can interact faithfully with our postmodern culture. The Rev. Karen Ward, abbess of the Church of the Apostles, an emerging church in the Fremont District in Seattle, will work with him to engage us in exploring this new movement. Together they will lead us in worship and create a space unlike you have encountered before at a youth gathering! Be a "Cornerstone" volunteer College-age young adults--if your are looking for a way to serve Christ in a high energy and fun atmosphere, this is what you may be looking for. ELCA Wellness Initiatives
As we enter into a time of increased activity in the church as committees, confirmation classes and groups gather, balance is key. We would like to introduce you to A Journey to Reformation. Wellness is about choice. This journey takes one of two wellness paths: Here I Step: A Journey to Reformation – a six-week walking and wellness campaign that follows the roadmap for wellness: increase physical activity, decrease caloric intake and live prayerfully. A tool kit with planning materials is available on the Journey to Reformation page. Walk to Wellness - a 28-day campaign available through Mayo Clinic in which participants log their walking progress online. To participate in Walk to Wellness participants must enroll between Sept. 17 – 30. For more information, visit the Walk to Wellness page. Take the challenge. Encourage God’s people to choose the wellness path that works for them and journey to Reformation! Tammy Devine, Diaconal Minister and ELCA Wellness Coordinator

Lutheran World Relief announces new
guidelines
Lutheran World Relief (LWR) announced that as of December 31, 2006, it will no longer collect clothing of any kind for distribution through its Material Resources Program. However, all other LWR Parish Projects (quilts, kits and soap) will remain vital components to LWR's outreach programs. Many countries have altered their policies regarding used clothing imports; some are even prohibiting such imports. Clothing imports may disrupt local economies and, in some instances, threaten local textile and clothing manufacturing jobs. Other countries are charging increasingly high customs duty and taxes, making shipping costs prohibitively expensive. In many cases, purchasing clothing locally to support communities in crisis is a better approach. Items purchased locally are cost effective, suitable for local needs and help to bolster local economies. Those who have been collecting clothing to take to a local LWR ingathering this fall may still do so. The LWR website includes detailed information about parish programs, including school kids, quilts, and soap. Click on "be involved." Also find out about fair trade coffee and chocolate and obtain resources for learning about the work of LWR throughout the world.
