Installation of Sandra L. Templeton, AIM
The installation for Sandra Templeton will take place at Lutheran Church of the Master, Lakewood, CO, on Sunday, September 24, 2006 at the 8:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. worship services. The Rev. James Hytjan, assistant to the bishop, will be preaching. The church is located at 14099 W. Jewell Avenue in Lakewood. A reception will take place in the fellowship hall from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Our Savior's, Roy, UT, celebrates 50 years
We celebrate with the people of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Roy, UT, as they celebrate 50 years of ministry. Sunday worship is at 8:45 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Pamela Sersen begins missionary journey to Japan
Pamela Sersen departed for Japan yesterday to begin her training to serve as an ELCA missionary. She will have six months of language and cultural training and then be deployed for the next two years either to Tokyo or to Kumamoto on the southern island of Kyushu. She will be working in a Christian school teaching English and will also be working with a Japanese Lutheran Church. We remember her in our prayers and extend our blessing. Pamela is the daughter of Pastor Tim Sersen, Faith Lutheran Church, Lander, WY.

RMS Office Staffing Update
Janice Ladd-Horkey and Cheryl Almquist have been named the first two persons of our "Administrative Staff." Janice is responsible for matters related to Synod Council, candidacy, synod assembly, theological conference, and general office functions, while providing specific support for Madelyn Busse, including Global Missions, Church in Society, and Campus Ministry. She also coordinates the resource center. Cheryl Almquist continues to administrate the synod finances while serving as specific support for Jim Hytjan and Dan Bollman. She also oversees call process administration and roster maintenance while joining in general office tasks. Pastor Kent Mueller has been named Director for Administration & Communication with an increase from 1/2 to 2/3 time. He will have additional responsibilities related to overseeing the overall administrative workings of the office with additional responsibilities in support to Bishop Bjornberg. Filling a part-time position for Administrative Staff will complete the new staffing configuration. (See below!)

Announcing: New RMS Administrative Staff Position
The Rocky Mountain Synod office is announcing a job opening for "Administrative Staff." This 20-25 hour a week position is responsible, in collaboration with the entire Rocky Mountain Synod staff and its leaders, to be a partner in communicating the synod’s mission and ministry, to be the point person for expressing care and compassion for and with each other, and to be responsible for specific elements of organizing meetings and events. This person must have the gift of hospitality, serving as the primary point of welcome for guests in person and by telephone. Immigration Issues Study Guide now available A resolution calling for congregations in the Rocky Mountain Synod to study and discuss immigration issues was adopted at assemby. A resource has been compiled and is available for download.

Campus Ministry Sunday is September 17
At our assembly in April, the Rocky Mountain Synod adopted this resolution:
"Resolved, That the Rocky Mountain Synod designate the 3rd Sunday in September as Lutheran Campus Ministry Sunday, and that local congregations throughout the synod, with the help of the synod Campus Ministry Committee, will use that day to learn about, pray for, celebrate, and support the work of Lutheran Campus Ministry throughout our synod, and remember students, faculty and staff in their own congregations."

A litany and bulletin insert are available to use and include in your Sunday worship.

Senior high youth gathering is Nov 17- 19
Registration is now open online at www.rmselca .org/forever/. Whatever, Wherever, Whenever, Forever, this year’s Rocky Mountain Synod Senior High Youth Gathering, will offer young people an immersion into the emerging church. The speaker is Nate Frombach, Professor of Youth, Culture, and Mission at Wartburg Theological Seminary. Dr. Frombach will passionately lead us into exploring ways that young people in the church can interact faithfully with our postmodern culture. The Rev. Karen Ward, abbess of the Church of the Apostles, an emerging church in the Fremont District in Seattle, will work with him to engage us in exploring this new movement. Together they will lead us in worship and create a space unlike you have encountered before at a youth gathering!

Be a "Cornerstone" volunteer
College-age young adults--if your are looking for a way to serve Christ in a high energy and fun atmosphere, this is what you may be looking for. Cornerstone is college-age young adults who, following in the example of our Lord Jesus, are willing to serve others by joining the ELCA Rocky Mountain Synod Senior High Youth Gathering program implementation team. Spirit Driven: RMS Women of the ELCA Convention
The Rocky Mountain Synodical Women's Organization bi-annual Convention, with the theme "Spirit Driven" will be September 15, 16, & 17, 2006, at First Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs, CO. Registration for the convention is $130 if received between August 19 and September 15. Registration forms and more detailed information on the convention are availabe on the web.

Celebrate Treasures, Old and New
Exploring and Expanding Worship Resources

Eight events are scheduled throughout the Rocky Mountain Synod in the fall and winter to introduce the new Evangelical Lutheran Worship book that will be available on October 3. The events will typically run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost for groups of six is $100 Cost for an individual is $20 Cost includes lunch and a copy of the Worship book. Travel costs will be negotiated with the synod office. Please mark these dates on your calendar:

NM Advocacy Conference is September 23
“Voices for Justice” Annual Lutheran Office of Governmental Ministry-New Mexico Advocacy Conference will be on Saturday, September 23 in Albuquerque (Central United Methodist Church, west of University between Central and Martin Luther King). The conference keynote speaker is Jennifer Bishop Jenkins, founding member of Murder Victims’ Families for Human Rights and national board chair of Murder Victims’ Families for Reconciliation. Workshop topics include advocacy basics, repeal of the death penalty, hunger, health care and more. The cost is $20 per person including lunch. Coaching 101 Workshop
A Coaching 101 Workshop is set for Friday and Saturday, October 20-21, 2006, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Denver. This is an opportunity for lay or clergy to learn about the coaching process for supporting congregational leadership, working with mission developers in the Rocky Mountain Synod, or walking with a congregation through the Natural Church Development process. Cost of the workshop, excluding travel, lodging, and meals outside the workshop is $200 Included in the cost is the training, books to be read prior to the workshop, and a one year subscription to CoachNet.org. Abiding Hope Adaptive Leadership Academy
January 15-18, 2007, Abiding Hope Adaptive Leadership Academy of Littleton, Colorado, will host A Story for the Questions: Forging Disciples in an Age of No Easy Answers. Martin Marty, Marva Dawn, Diana Butler Bass, and Rick Barger will serve as keynote speakers. In addition to the keynote addresses, the event will include several interactive workshops, dynamic worship and the comedy of Charles Marshall. Grant Avenue Street Reach in Denver invites volunteers
Give two hours of your time to serve homeless and hungry people in the city. Members of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Denver, invite you to spend two hours with us, helping at an amazing ministry to some of Denver’s neediest people. Grant Avenue Street Reach provides a free meal--gourmet spaghetti, on real dishes--to people in our neighborhood, every Monday, 1-5 pm. We invite you to accompany one of our servers as they work at the meal and begin the cleanup, from 4-6 pm on any Monday. Bring a friend. Bring the whole family! This is a good opportunity for you to spend some quality time with your children. We’ll meet you at the door, give you a tour and put you to work. We’ll close with a short reflection on the experience. We hope this schedule makes it possible for you to come after work or school, especially if you work downtown. Spend Reformation Day in Wittenberg, Germany
The Northern New Mexico Conference, ELCA, invites you to join them on a tour of Luther sites in Eastern Germany this fall. The tour begins in Berlin on October 30 and ends on November 7th.
