autumn prayer
God of autumn, the trees are saying goodbye to their green, letting go of what has been. We, too, have our moments of surrender, with all their insecurity and risk. Help us to let go when we need to do so.

God of fallen leaves lying in colored patterns on the ground, our lives have their own patterns. As we see the patterns of our own growth, may we learn from them.

God of harvest wagons and fields of ripened grain, many gifts lie within the season of our surrender. We must wait for harvest in faith and hope. Grant us patience when we do not see the blessings.

God of geese going south for another season, your wisdom enables us to know what needs to be left behind and what needs to be carried into the future. We yearn for insight and vision.

God of flowers touched with frost and windows wearing white designs, may your love keep our hearts from growing cold in the empty seasons.

Read and comment
on the RMS web log (blog!)

by Linda Bobbitt, Vice President RMS

One year ago Bishop Bjornberg and I met lay and rostered leaders at 16 conversations held around the synod. In those meetings you told us that you wanted any changes to be truly grassroots. We heard your call and now is your chance to participate in the first ever RMS blog!

As determined at the 2005 assembly, three workgroups made up of volunteers from around the synod are working in three areas: Lutheran Identity, Conflict Management, and Discipleship/Evangelism. On Sept. 13 leaders from the three VPA workgroups met for the second time. Our conversation was optimistic and stimulating, and now we want to invite all of you to participate! Leaders from each of the workgroups will be writing brief reflections on the topics raised by their work. You are encouraged to read their reflections and add your thoughts by participating in a blog set up for this purpose. Once you click "publish" your comments will be added to the site for others to share. We ask all contributors to include their name, their congregation, and their city.

Please visit the blog website often at http://rmselca.blogspot.com and invite people you know. I know that participation in the conversation will renew your sense of mission!

Ron Roschke is our first blogger!
On the new RMS blog he writes...
"...What has struck me in our conversations so far is the important relationship between our three work areas. When we start to talk about one, we quickly find ourselves speaking about the other two. A picture is starting to form in my mind about how these three work areas connect with each other. Identity and Discipleship/Evangelism are two sides of a circle that joins together our inner identity with our outward mission..."
