Tutors needed at Cristo
Rey, Denver
Do you like working with kids? Cristo Rey in West Denver is organizing an after school academic enrichment program for children in the parish and in the community. It will feature one-on-one tutoring sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday, and thursday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. for elementary- aged children who need encouragement and extra help with reading and basic math. Needed are volunteers willing to commit to working with a child on any of these days. The program also needs a good selection of children's books, pencils, pens, notebooks, and other school supplies. Donations are welcome! This is an excellent opportunity to do fun and meaningful work with great kids in a personal setting. Stand Up Against Poverty on October 15
On October 15, thousands of people around the world will take a moment to STAND UP against poverty to set an official Guinness World Record. This moment is part of the ELCA’s ONE Lutheran Campaign for the Millennium Development Goals. STAND UP on Sunday, October 15 There are many ways that your congregations can participate in STAND UP during Sunday worship. You are encouraged to use the Prayers of the People based on the Millennium Development Goals during which all members of the congregation STAND. After the service be sure to 1) estimate how many people were in attendance and 2) immediately e-mail the number of people in your congregation that took a STAND.
