Reformation Day October 31
Almighty God, gracious Lord, we thank you that your Holy Spirit renews the church in every age. Pour out your Holy Spirit on your faithful people. Keep them steadfast in your word, protect and comfort them in times of trials, defend them against all enemies of the gospel, and bestow on the church your saving peace, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

  Marriage Book
Book Review by Jean Larson

THE LUTHERAN HANDBOOK OF MARRIAGE
Augsburg Fortress Publishers

Editors: Gloria Bengtson, Laurie J Hanson
23 Contributing Editors

From the very popular The Lutheran Handbook comes the newly published Lutheran Handbook on Marriage. This practical guide on marriage, sprinkled with wit and wisdom, begins with a Christian/Lutheran understanding of marriage via Martin Luther and select Biblical couples. The book progresses from preparation for marriage to solving marital conflicts, through raising children to 2nd marriages, through retirement to death. The sanctity as well as practical aspects of marriage are preserved.

Those who have experienced or are at any stage of marriage from the altar to the grave will relate to many of the pitfalls and joys of marriage and children found throughout the book. It can be used as an ongoing study for engaged or married couples at any stage. A Lutheran Course on Marriage starter kit is available online at or call 1-800-328-4648. Available December 1, 2006.
