Prayer

God of widows and strangers,
you protect the oppressed and forgotten
and feed the hungry with good things.
You stand among us in Christ, offering life to all.
Give us open hearts and minds
to respond with love to the world,
caring for those for whom you care.
Amen

Over 70? Consult your tax advisor about tax-free distributions from IRA's in 2006 & 2007
Effective for a two year period (Jan 1, 2006 - Dec 31, 2007), distributions made from an IRA to a qualifying charity are excluded from the IRA owner. The owner must be 70 and the amount excluded is limited to $100,000 a year. This is a provision in the Pension Protection Act of 2006. This provision removes a number of impediments that stood in the way of IRA owners who wanted to give all or a portion of their IRA to charity.

What to do with your old LBW’s?
As congregations are receiving their new worship books, a question has been raised of what to do with the old LBW books. Here are a few suggestions that have come into the office as of this posting:

--All Saints' Episcopal Church, Milan, NM, is considering joint services and could use about 30-50 of the old hymnals; There may be other small churches considering joint services or two services in the same building.
--Nursing homes
--Prisons: (For example, there are three in Grants, NM)
--Camps
--Retreat Centers
--And as a last resort, recycle them! (Eco-Cycle in Boulder, CO accepts hard-bound books for a small fee: call 303-444-6634).

If you have suggestions for them or information about where they might be sent or utilized, please send an email to: communications@rmselca.org and we will share your ideas, also.
