2011 Theological Conference Presenters
Liv Larson Andrews keeps a messy sketchbook. She graduated from Valparaiso University (BA) and the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (MDiv). Curious about the intersection of art, spirituality and justice, she enjoys the artwork of Andy Goldsworthy and the music of the Psalters.
She lives in Spokane, Washington where she is pastor of Salem Lutheran Church and All Saints Lutheran Church. Andrews experienced her call to ordained ministry through art in worship, namely the ministry of Soul Purpose Liturgical Drama Troupe. Her artwork is featured in the condolence materials of Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois, where she completed her CPE Residency with an art show. She has experience building labyrinths, directing plays in church, and making art with fabric, mosaics, print blocks and watercolors. But cheap oil pastels are still her favorite.
Mark Mummert is Organist at Christ the King Evangelical Lutheran Church, Houston, Texas, and Organist for the Bach Society of Houston, an affiliate ministry of Christ the King. Prior to his appointment in Texas, he served as Seminary Musician at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (1990-2008). During his time at LTSP, Mark did the Three Days twice each year, once in the congregation, and once on a day-long retreat for liturgy students!
Mark is a composer of Setting One of Holy Communion in Evangelical Lutheran Worship and served as general editor of Psalm Settings for the Church Year, published by Augsburg Fortress (2008). His worship planning helps have been published by Augsburg Fortress, GIA Publications, and the Liturgical Press. Mark directed the music of Worship Jubilee 2007 and the 2007 ELCA Churchwide Assembly in Chicago, Illinois. Mark studied at the Esther Boyer College of Music at Temple University.
Gail Ramshaw has cared about words in worship since her childhood. A lay Lutheran, she graduated from Valparaiso University (BA), Sarah Lawrence College (MA), the University of Wisconsin—Madison (PhD), and Union Theological Seminary (MDiv). She lives in Philadelphia, is professor of religion at La Salle University, collects images of the tree-of-life, and hopes that within her lifetime the reverent and creative use of the Three Days will be standard liturgical practice in many Christian churches.
Ramshaw has published many books on the meaning of liturgical language, including A Three-Year Banquet: The Lectionary for the Assembly; The Three-Day Feast: Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter; Treasures Old and New: Images in the Lectionary; Reviving Sacred Speech; God beyond Gender; and the Words series: Words Around the Fire, Words Around the Table, Words Around the Font and Words That Sing. Her prayers have been included in the worship resources of several denominations.
Ben Stewart is especially interested in the ways liturgy orients us to everyday life. Ben is Gordon A. Braatz Assistant Professor of Worship and Dean of Augustana Chapel at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, and has served as pastor to a small Appalachian community in Ohio and to Holden Village, a retreat center in the Glacier Peak Wilderness of Washington.
He holds degrees from Capital University (BA), Trinity Lutheran Seminary (MDiv), Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (STM), and Emory University’s Graduate Division of Religion (Ph.D). Ben has published articles in a number of journals, including Worship, CrossAccent, and Liturgical Ministry. His forthcoming book for Augsburg Fortress explores the place of Christian worship in an age of ecological emergency. Ben is a team member of Living Liturgy, a group that leads of retreats across the United States fostering worship renewal at the congregational level.

Resources
Online registration will provide the opportunity to order a copy of one or both of the following resources from Augsburg Fortress.
Worship Guidebook for Lent and the Three Days
Our four conference presenters (along with Susan Briehl) are the authors of this new resource from Augsburg Fortress. This guidebook is a treasure trove of insights, images, and practical tips to help deepen your congregation's worship life during the days from Ash Wednesday to Easter. Resources include expansive, reflective commentary on the Lenten and Holy Week services from Evangelical Lutheran Worship; images and ideas for preaching and preparing meaningful worship on these days; practical and creative suggestions for engaging all the senses in worship through art and environment; and helps for using music in the worship services.
Music Sourcebook for Lent and the Three Days
An essential companion resource to the Worship Guidebook, this collection greatly expands the repertoire of resources for the song of the assembly and its leaders during the days from Ash Wednesday to Easter. Most materials are newly composed in a broad range of styles.
Included are also time-tested music selections from a variety of other sources and publishers. Over 100 songs and responses. Most selections are reproducible, and an enclosed CD-ROM includes assembly, and instrumental parts. Spiral-bound with CD-ROM.
