Get in the Game
Mount Tabor Lutheran Church, Salt Lake City, UT
”Each one, drag one”
Personal invitation is the key! Each women invites one other woman to a circle, cluster event, or convention. It works and it is contagious!
We also encourage participation in the larger church and women’s organization which is essential to maintain the VISION! Our congregation has had a woman on the RMSWO board almost every year since!
St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Albuquerque, NM
We have a prayer chain.
We support each other and our congregation through prayer, potluck, small group fellowships dinners, and Bible study.
Faith Lutheran Church, Eaton, CO
Use your prayer chain! We just started using our websites (and email) and many new people have joined this ministry!

Salad Retreat - St. Luke Lutheran Church, Albuquerque, NM
We had a salad luncheon to raise money to assist members who were going to convention or retreats and to help with our large babysitting bill. Babysitting is important in allowing young women in our congregation to participate.
Butter ‘em up - St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Arvada CO
For a fund raiser, our very small WELCA group sold Butter Braid. We contacted the organization in Castle Rock, CO, who gave us the order blanks and delivered the frozen dough to our church. Six women made over $800!
Quilt Raffle - All Saints Lutheran Church, Aurora, CO
Quilters created a “Grandmother’s Flower Garden” Quilt which is being raffled off to benefit Habitat for Humanity. Last year’s quilt raised over $500. This year, the sky’s the limit!
Thankoffering Service - All Saints Lutheran Church, Albuquerque, NM
We have sponsored and led annual Thankoffering services on a Sunday in November. A female pastor presides, and women perform all other roles. Liturgy and prayers are taken from Greater Church publications. Thankofferings are sent to churchwide.
Pie Al-a-mo - St. Paul Lutheran Church, Cheyenne, WY
We held a fund-raiser for women interested in attending the 6th Triennial in San Antonio, TX on May 1, 2005 -- our regular "Pie Social" with a twist. We sold pie and ice cream to bring interest to the congregation about Triennial and hopefully a lot of support. We have also requested assistance from Thrivent for this event.
Ministry
Sharing the Love
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Casper, WY
The ladies of our church have made quilts for every conceivable need – just this year. Dozens for Seton House (a women and children’s shelter), Head Start, and three separate raffles on behalf of Clayton Loraas, a youngster in our congregation who is fighting cancer.
First Lutheran Church, Gypsum, CO
Our little church fed 55,000 people!
Alternative Gift of Maize / Thanksgiving Day Prayer Walk / Bag Sale
This interdenominational prayer walk was originally conceived to alleviate widespread hunger around Haydon Lutheran Hospital in Tanzania. We sent a mission team there, who informed us about hundreds of thousands of deaths as a result of severe drought there. Our sister congregation of ~ 150 members made and sold small replicas of bags of maize (Tanzania’s staple food) as an alternative gift for Christmas. Each bag sold for $4 each – the price of a real bag of maize in Tanzania, which normally feeds a family of 4 for a month. We sold 150 bags. A prayer walk was held in conjunction with the sale, for which we collected $1200 in cash donations.
St. Mark Lutheran Church, Aurora, CO
We support the Coalition for the Homeless in Aurora, inviting them to our general meetings to tell us of their needs. We collect non-perishable food items, clothing, magazines, and children’s items.
Zion Lutheran Church, Montrose, CO
Instead of a Christmas Gift Exchange, we obtain a list of clients at Community Options, which serves mentally challenged individuals in Montrose. The manager provides us with names, ages, and suggestions for gifts so that they may be individualized for the recipient.
Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Roy, UT
We are sponsoring a baby bottle campaign currently to support the Ogden Pregnancy Care Center.

Ties That Bind
Mother’s Day Event – We held an afternoon tea where everyone wore hats and gloves. We spread a quilt in the center of the floor where the children gathered while a professional storyteller entertained them. Tea was served in tea pots from a member’s collection and we had a buffet with English tea goodies.

We held a “High Tea” just for fun, and as a community building activity this last August. Women of the congregation brought wedding gowns and pictures for display. Doilies, flowers, and antiques decorated the tables. A professor gave a poetry reading to the well-dressed crowd. We had a lot of fun!

We have two women’s Bible study groups that choose what they want to study (not always the current LWT Bible study). They have sponsored three retreats that include all women. For two years in a row we have had an outdoor event on a farm around a bonfire, including all women high school age and older. The bonfire event has been very successful at blending age groups and creating support for one another.

We hold an All-Daughters Tea in the afternoon of the second Saturday in May. We make it very festive!

”Oh the Places We’ll Go!”
We did a “hat” skit at our last quarterly meeting – a Saturday morning brunch. We decorated the hats to depict the involvement of the Women of Bethel from 50 years ago to now … and into the future. It was great history for our younger members and inspiring for everyone to hear about future plans.
