Fundraising
Raising funds for your ministries can be fun and provide fellowship opportunities. 

Old Hat

There are many types of fundraisers that you can do.  This list includes some very standard ideas that are tried and true:

• Bake Sales
• Soup Suppers
• Car washes
• Rent-a-kid
• Rent-a-mom
• Craft Bazaars

Sometimes these old standbys work best when coupled with a special event.  Run a bake sale close to a holiday when people who are too busy to bake would be more likely to buy you out!  Make appetizers or chili to sell on Super Bowl Sunday.  Run a rent-a-kid program when there are leaves to rake.

New Hat
Don't be afraid to couple a social event you are having with a fund-raiser, in-kind collection, or food drive.

Tie it right into your theme.  Remind everyone that while you might be having a great time socially, there are others out there in need.  

While you've got people together, use the time to sign letters to request aid for women and children in poverty from your civic leaders. 

Raffles
Raffles can be a great idea, but there are two things to consider:  

1.  You need to get a license to hold a raffle
2. Raffles are actually not recommended by the ELCA because they are a form of gambling

 

Scholarships
For individuals to obtain financial assistance to help them attend events or even gain higher education, a scholarship can make dreams into reality.

To RMSWO Events
We offer two scholarships in the Rocky Mountain Synod to help women in the Synod attend local events.

• Lydia, Woman of Faith [formerly Woman of Faith] (application)

To ELCA Events
There are many scholarships available on the churchwide level for laywomen, administrative leadership, and ordained ministry. (See more here.) You'll need to scroll down the page.

Grants
One way to obtain financing for ministry is to seek out grants.  But what are some sources of grants and how do you write a grant proposal?

Churchwide Women of the ELCA
Women of the ELCA awards grants annually. The organization encourages applications addressing a broad range of issues within rural, urban, and suburban sectors. More>

Rocky Mountain Synod
For social ministry outreach in the community that includes the direct involvement of members with those being served. The deadline is in February.  More>

Wheat Ridge Ministries
Need a grant for a health and wellness ministry in your congregation or cluster? Well this might be the answer to your search. Wheat Ridge Ministries grants are available to support new-congregation based ministries. For guidelines and application forms one at go to www.wheatridge.org. Grant Writing Tips
