Practice Discipleship

Mission:
To equip adult leaders and caring adults in our congregations and homes to accompany young people in developing a vital faith so they can fully live our their calling in the world for the sake of Jesus Christ.

Vision:
An active, living faith in Jesus Christ that is deeply-owned and articulated by each youth and young adult in the Rocky Mountain Synod and by the adults who love them and walk along side them.

Strategies:
Over the past forty years there have been prophetic voices and organizations who have called upon the church to rethink its approach for faith formation, beginning with the adults who love and care for our children and youth.   You are invited to join us as we:

  • Live into a vision for faith formation, mission and servant leadership with those ages 13-24,
  • Discover effective approaches based on our Lutheran heritage, solid theology and current research
  • Share with one another effective faith practices and align our resources around a common mission and vision,
  • Build networks and support for one another in this critical and urgent work of the church – in our congregations, partner institutions, the  communities and households where our young people live their daily lives.

Goals:

  • Deepen the capacity for congregations and adult leaders to provide faith forming opportunities for young people in all they do
  • Assist young people in understanding their vocation and an increased ability to articulate their faith in Jesus Christ
  •   Youth who have a Creed to Believe in, a Call of their Own, a Community to Belong and a Hope for the future based in Jesus Christ.
  • A 2012 ELCA Youth Gathering Experience that extends beyond the gathering and models discipleship for "back home."
