Information about Youth/Young Adult Voting Members

Group registrations may be facilitated by one individual or by a church office administrator. However, the registration worksheet will be helpful to gather needed information from the registrants.

Voting members and assembly visitors will have the opportunity to "Experience the Word" in a variety of ways through workshops at the hotel or excursions into the city.
Those attending from each congregation are to intentionally select a range of different workshop and excursion choices.

You will want to be in conversation with others attending so you do not make the same selections.

Many of the excursions require extensive walking, and they are clearly indicated.

Assembly registration does not include hotel reservations. You are to make your own online hotel reservations.

How many voting members?

The membership of the Synod Assembly, of which at least 60% of the voting membership shall be composed of laypersons, shall be constituted as follows:

All ordained ministers under call on the roster of this synod in attendance at the Synod Assembly shall be voting members.

All associates in ministry, deaconesses of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and diaconal ministers, under call, on the official lay rosters of this synod shall have both voice and vote as lay voting members in the Synod Assembly.

A minimum of one lay member elected by each congregation with fewer than 175 baptized members and a minimum of two lay members elected by each congregation with 175 or more baptized members related to this synod, normally one of whom shall be male and one of whom shall be female, shall be voting members.

Congregations having baptized membership of 650 to 1,199 shall be allowed one additional lay voting member (female or male).

Congregations having baptized membership of 1,200 or more shall be allowed two additional lay voting members (one female and one male).

Additional members from each congregation normally shall be equally divided between male and female. The Synod Council seeks to ensure that, as nearly as possible, 50 percent of the lay members of the assembly shall be female and 50 percent shall be male.

Voting membership also includes the officers of this synod.
