Decision Making Bodies
  • Synod Assembly - highest legistlative authority.  Powers restricted only by the provisions in the Articles of Incorporation, the constitution & bylaws, the assembly's own resolutions, and the constitution and bylaws of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
  • Synod Council - board of directors and interim legislative authority between annual meetings of the Synod Assembly - can make decisions that do not conflict with Synod Assembly rules or actions
  • Boards - elected at Synod Assembly to assist in fulfillment of the Synod missions
  • Committees, Teams, & Taskforces - members are appointed by the Synod Council and support the work of the boards & Synod Council

    • Candidacy Committee - verifies readiness & appropriateness of candidates for rostered ministry
    • Invitation to Service Committee - encourages individuals to consider opportunities to serve God's call and helps in discerning God's call
    • Congregational Ministry Board - resources to strengthen life & mission within our congregations
      • Christian Educational Consultation Team - curriculum & programs for Christian Education
      • Older Adult Ministry Team - supports & encourages ministry by, to, & for older adults

      • Outdoor Ministries Committee - handles Rainbow Trail & Sky Ranch Lutheran Camps 
      • Youth Ministry Task Force - encourages youth and family ministry, supports youth leaders
    • Church in Society Board- awakens & sustains concern for justice & social ministry 
      • Hunger Network - promotes World Hunger Appeal & educates congregations about hunger in society
      • Health, Ministry, & Parish Nursing Resource Group - develops health ministries in congregations
      • Non-violence Resource Team - addresses issues of violence with congregations
      • Multicultural Commission - promotes inclusiveness & diversity
    • Mission Outreach Board - supports new & developing congregations
      • Mission 25 Committee - encourages "birthday gifts" to newly organized congregations
      • Mission Partners - joins congregations to support each other financially
      • Anti-Racism Training Team - helps educate & build bridges to understand racism in our society
      • Global Mission Committee - educates congregations on needs & opportunities for global mission & companion synod partnerships
    • Lutheran Offices of Governmental Ministry Policy Committee - promotes advocacy for those with little economic / political power
