What does it mean to be bold? You'll hear that question a lot over the next three years as we live into our triennial theme, Act Boldly. Lutheran Woman Today plans to address boldness — and all that it means — through its Bible studies, devotions, regular columns, and articles.

Bible study: Finding my Boldness
Study text: Judges 4:1-5:31, Acts 4:1-31
My questions to other participants are:
Judges 4:1-5:31 tells the story of Barak receiving counsel from Deborah to help defeat Jabin's general, Sisera. Sisera is killed not by Barak's army, but by Jael.
1. How do the characters in Judges 4&5 portray boldness?
2. Can you see boldness reflected in your life similar to the boldness that these characters portrayed or discovered?
3. Are there good ways to act upon our boldness? Are there ways that can be damaging to our selves and others?
4. In times of prosperity, do we forget to continue to act boldly upon our faith? To what consequences?
Acts 4:1-31 tells the story of how Peter and John are imprisoned by the Sadduces for testifying to salvation through Jesus Christ. Despite the threats they faced they refuse to answer to the Sadduces, instead insisting that they serve God first and foremost.
5. Who do you answer to first in your life? God or society? Do you fear to act boldly upon your faith because of how others would react?
6. How can we put aside our fears and respect our God before ourselves and others?
7. Can you name some instances in your life in which you desire to act more boldly?
