Rev. Gene Thiemann, 970-282-7763, 5643 Hummel Lane, Ft. Collins, CO 80525, gthiemann@comcast.net Spent nine years as a missionary in the Philippines. Worked for The Lutheran Hour and also for Lutheran World Relief as program director for Asia and the Middle East. He spent time in India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Gaza and the West Bank. He still serves LWR as a consultant from his home in Ft. Collins and was called to India shortly after the tsunami of Christmas, 2004. Gene prefers opportunities to preach, and a supply preacher honorarium is appropriate.
Annabelle Thiemann, same information as for her husband, above. A native of Waverly, Iowa, she traveled extensively with her husband in his assignments for LWR. She also served with LWR for seven years as coordinator for Parish Projects such as providing quilts.

He and his wife traveled to Kenya and Uganda with a LWR tour and came back excited to share their insights. They have encouraged many churches to begin a LWR Coffee

Jim Bowman, 505-255-0308, 324 Amherst Dr. S.E., Albuquerque, NM 87106 jvbowman@msn.com Jim Bowman was a peace Corps volunteer in Liberia and after graduating from the seminary worked with LWR in Argentina and countries in Africa. He worked on the Nebraska synod staff as director of public policy and for five years served on LWR’s staff in Washington, D.C. as global public policy director.

She also has stories to tell about a summer teaching in Namibia, where she trained local elementary teachers from remote communities in methods of teaching English.

Both work in our synod’s advocacy offices (in CO and NM respectively). They have experiences in issues of justice and advocacy.
Dawn and Sam Matthews, 719-632-3991, 15 N. 32nd St. Apt. 1, Colorado Springs, CO 80904. Formerly ELCA missionaries to Liberia, Sam is an engineer, and Dawn is a nurse and administrator. Both have experience working with LWR projects in foreign development. Currently they both work for EMI, a Christian ministry to provide engineering talents for projects such as orphanages, water projects, schools, hospitals, etc., throughout the world.
Carolyn Bartel, 303-841-9822, 12341 N. Spring Creek Rd., Parker, CO 80138. The wife of a pastor, she is a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and its Global mission Task Force. She traveled to Tanzania on a LWR study trip. (See below for more information.)
Arlis Adolf, MD. 303-759-3947, 1420 S. Jersey Way, Denver, CO 80224. Dr. Adolf traveled with Carolyn Bartel (see above listing) to Tanzania where they met women of Tanzania who are helping their families and villages through LWR projects and tell great stories of small coffee farmers who are benefiting from our support of Equal Exchange Coffee projects.

From their home in Grand Junction, CO they traveled on a LWR trip to Nicaragua to learn about fair trade coffee and subsistence living of the people in Central America . They have a short video to accompany their speaking.

A member of the RMS Hunger Network, Kay also works on hunger policy for Lutheran Advocacy Ministry—Colorado, a service she founded in 1984. As a result of her work in CO, she became the national Director for Domestic Policy Advocacy of the ELCA’s Washington office for nearly 14 years. In 2008 she will begin serving as president of the Colorado Anti-Hunger Network. She speaks on all aspects of economic justice.

The present chair of the RMS Hunger Network and newsletter editor of The Daily Bread has traveled to the Lutheran Center in Mexico City to see firsthand the effects of poverty and the projects supported through the WHA. She has given sermons, temple talks, and led adult forums,
as well as consulting on awareness and fund-raising activities.
