We are blessed with talented and capable rostered ministers in our synod. No rostered minister goes into the work to get rich financially. In fact, most pay a deep financial price in order to prepare for their role as a servant leader. We expect to have an educated clergy, but our corporate funding of that education has decreased in recent decades, and individual students have had to increase their loans. Seminary debt is serious and burdensome, and leads to other forms of debt that can impair ministry. Newer rostered ministers tend to be in smaller congregations with fewer resources. As a sign of our partnership as one church, and because we share in the burdens of the other, we have established the Ministerial Excellence Fund to provide grants to those who need assistance.
