Safe Gatherings

Safe Gatherings is an online abuse-prevention program that screens and trains staff and volunteers working with children, youth, and vulnerable adults. It offers background and reference checks, abuse-prevention and boundary-awareness training, and ongoing online access for repeated review. After completing the application, background/reference checks, and training, each person receives approval valid for three years (with training access for one year). 

As of recent pricing, the individual-church program costs about $50–$75 per applicant, covering two electronic references, a national criminal background check, a 7-year county-of-residence background check, national and state Sex Offender Registry checks, and roughly 1.5–2 hours of online abuse-prevention training. There’s also an optional driving-record check for people who will transport participants; the fee for that varies based on the state.
