Second Fruits

About Second Fruits

Second Fruits is a new Rocky Mountain Synod initiative that reimagines gifted resources for today’s ministry context and the future church. These funds come from property sales, capital campaigns, holy closure gifts, legacy gifts, existing funds, and remaining grant resources. Rather than simply saving these resources or spending them all at once, Second Fruits takes a sustainable approach: honoring the spirit of the original gifts while investing in congregations, leaders, ministries, and new models for mission across the synod.

At the 2026 Synod Assembly, Bishop Meghan named Second Fruits as one of two new initiatives developed to strengthen the synod’s shared goals of relationship, support, connection, and equipping. The Rocky Mountain Synod currently includes over 150 ELCA congregations across Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, and El Paso, Texas, making this fund a way to support ministry across a wide and varied territory.

Second Fruits will support four primary areas of ministry:

  • Ministry Development & Revitalization
  • Leadership Development & Support
  • Faith Formation
  • Justice and Advocacy
